Monday Mommy

Welcome todays Monday Mommy, Amanda K! Amanda runs the blog Blinded By The Light and says "I mainly focus on my passion for my family, holistic health and spirituality. "

Q: What is the focus of your blog?
A:My favorite topics are vaccine awareness, my journey in home-birth education, avoiding dangerous routine interventions in all aspects of health. I do my best to facilitate change and awareness through sharing scientific data and research on these subjects while also incorporating a non-dualistic spiritual point of view.

Q: I love to hear about others cloth diapering stories and adventures. What kind of experience do you have with cloth diapering?
We've been cloth diapering for only about 2 months. I started extremely late since my daughter is going to be 2 soon! But, I have another one on the way in August, so I get to look forward to tiny cloth diapers soon enough.

Q: Tell me a little bit about your family, where you are from etc.
A: I am from a small town in Ohio. I was raised in a Catholic divorced family and attended Catholic school. I attended Eastern Michigan and Kent State University which I attained a degree in Sociology and Psychology. I currently work in Sales and Customer Support in the plastic's industry. I am a mother and a wife.

My path toward a holistic perspective was an interesting one. In college and following graduation, I was dependent on many drugs. I ended up losing my job and becoming homeless. I worked as a dancer for money to support my habit.

One faithful night, I ended up wrecking my car. I was on cocktail of different drugs, illegal and legal. After ending up in jail, a long time friend and his father bailed me out. From that day, everything changed for me. I took control back in my life with the support I gained through him.

This close friend ended up becoming my husband and we've been together for over 10 years.

Becoming pregnant with my first child had opened up a part of me that had been dormant for many years. I started exploring more in depth on my beliefs, my spirituality, the origins of my faith .. or lack there of at times. I found that the Advaita Vedanta philosophy and the holistic viewpoint mirrored everything I had started to realize and become aware of in my life. I allow this spirituality to resonate in all of my life.

I am now pregnant a second time and I am planning my first home-birth.

I love quantum physics, biology and anything/everything educational - sometimes I feel like I just can't get enough. We cloth diaper, breastfeed, co sleep, etc - I feel entirely blessed to have the life I do and I enjoy sharing it with the world.

Q: What are some of your top recommendations for cloth diapers and cloth diapering related items?
A: I actually just reviewed an item - CJ's BUTTer, that stuff is AWESOME. I've only been cloth diapering for a short time, but I am in love with that stuff! I currently use Bumgenius 4.0 and have order some GroVia AIOs that haven't arrived yet. I plan on using prefolds for the newborn when he/she arrives.

Q: What do you enjoy doing during the day with your children?
A:One word: Learning. Simply learning with them : )

Q: What are some of your favorite blogs to check out? Do you visit blogs for fun, research, learning, to get ideas, etc?
A: Normally I visit blogs just for fun and to get support from other mothers. I do learn a lot from everyone.
Authentic Parenting
Anktangle
Enjoying The Small Things
Matthew's Puzzle
