When my daughter decided to potty train sooner than we expected, I knew we had to find something that would work for her since she was so small(only 22 months). We came across the Pourty Potty and really liked the design and the fact that it wouldn't drip when being emptied. 

There is a hole in the front that works as a handle for pouring. The dip in the back is where you empty the contents out. We loved that it never dripped all over the toilet seat...even when we had some "helpers" think that they needed to pour as well.

She picked out blue but they also have bright pink, cream and a gorgeous purple. The handle in the front is big enough for Dad to help empty as well but it is also great because your hands never get dirty either. The plastic that it is made out of is really durable and strong. It is all one solid piece with no little ridges anywhere. I absolutely loved that. We have had potty's in the past that had so many nooks and crannies and cleaning them was awful. This can be easily rinsed or wiped without having to worry about some of the mess getting stuck in a corner somewhere. That was also great for keeping the stinkies away! We never had a problem with smells!

Here is the back where you would empty it. You can also see at the front there is a little spot for boys in case they pee a little too high. The actual seat has a nice width on it and my daughter felt comfortable on it and didn't worry about falling in. She also never had it stick to her bottom either. It rises up high enough in the back as well so they can figure out where to put their butt for a comfortable position.

The actual potty is not very tall but this worked perfect for my little mini. Since she trained so early she was still pretty short and this has worked great for us. I don't think it would work well for an older child or a child who is extremely tall for their age. I had my older kids sit on it for that purpose to see what might work well. My son (age 3.5) was able to sit on it but it didn't work for him to actually go. I'd recommend it for younger or smaller children. From what I have noticed though, babies who are cloth diapered tend to train sooner so this would work great! 

On their website I found this "The Pourty is larger and has a wider flatter seating area than most one piece potties, but it is a little lower than some of the two piece and 3-in-1 potties. This allows the child to get into a good position to pee and poo. Medical evidence shows that squatting is the best position for emptying bladder and bowels efficiently and healthily."

Overall we loved this potty. It's size worked great for us and I loved that it didn't spill even when the kids wanted to help pour. I love how incredibly easy it is to clean and that it never left any odors! They also have a Flexi-Fit Toilet Trainer that looks incredible as well if your little one doesn't seem to want to try a little potty or are beyond that stage.

We quite often get asked about the best night time options when it comes to cloth diapering and potty training. There are several really good options for diapering at night but there aren't as many for trainers. When I came across Wunder Unders, I was immediately impressed with the look of them and her descriptions on her page. She was very detailed and explained everything very well. Not only does she offer a variety of colors and prints, but she offers a custom fit to your child's needs. There are so many choices and options to choose from it becomes overwhelming in a good way...because you don't often see that with any trainers out there. This is by far the best night time trainer that I have personally tried out on my kids. 

I was sent an AIO pocket style pull up trainer. When my son saw it, he immediately fell in love with it. He got to pick out his blue flame print when we were in the beginning process of creating our trainer. We were also sent these super soft inserts as well.



Lincoln is almost four but still has night time accidents. I have heard a lot of Moms have this issue with their kids. The main complaint is that there isn't anything that works in the cloth world for night time accidents for bigger kids. I always tell them to check out Wunder Unders.

There are a few different choices that you'll have to decide on once you get going. Here is the link to get started with a custom trainer. (There may be different pricing depending on the choice you make but it is all very clearly displayed) You'll need to decide if you want a pocket style, hybrid, or an AIO. The AIO has a soaker sewn in the wetzone for day time accidents but it also has a pocket opening to add inserts for night time. We went with the AIO. On nights my son didn't have a lot to drink, we didn't need to add any extra boosters and we didn't have any leaking.

Here is  pic of the front inner. There is a small opening in the front and you can see the sewn in insert as well. This helps with daytime accidents.

After you decide the style, you get to pick the fun colors, prints and if you want minky! Here is a link to her options. You get to pick everything even down to the color of the elastic. If you aren't sure which will match a certain print, Danielle does a great job helping you piece things together. After color choices are made, you have the option to have snaps added at the waist for easy removal. These will work great if you have a beginning potty learner in case of a poo accident. We went with no snaps to create a more underwear feel. You also get to choose which type of inner material you want.

 You can choose from stay dry, feel wet or swim diapers. We went with stay dry for ours because Lincoln has such sensitive skin and has woken up from rashes from other trainers that do not have the stay dry. The feels wet material is great for your little one during the day to help them realize when they went. 

We had very minor pilly around the edges of the trainer but they were easily picked off and were not an issue.

Once you have everything picked out, she can help you with getting measurements if you aren't sure how. Overall her prices are great and she has a really good turn around time for getting them to you. We absolutely love our trainer and fully intend to get more. 

We had a great fit on Lincoln. The trainers are really thin yet really absorbent. He calls them his night time undies and from using them for about two months now, he has actually started having less accidents at night.

These pics were taken without the extra inserts added so it looks a little saggy in the butt but there was a great fit. The legs were not too snug and the waist band was perfect for him.

We love our Wunder Unders trainer. This is by far the best trainer I have tried for overnight.

Adventures in Potty Training: Getting Ready

Potty training is something we all look forward to...well kind of. For me it was one less child in diapers, not that I don't LOVE my cloth diapers but seriously when your child screams and kicks like a wild hyena its something you look forward to. But here is the thing...where in the world do you start?

I have had my share of experience with potty training. Not that I'm bragging about it because trust me when I say that my child was nothing like the other children I have trained. I worked as an early preschool teacher which was with ages 2 1/2 to 3 years old. It was my job to teach the children their ABC's, 1 2 3's etc...yeah not really, we called my class the Potty Training Class. Stick me in a room with ZERO experience in potty training with EIGHT 2 1/2 year olds by myself and see what happens. Potty Training happens.

I was probably way more excited when I got the first kid potty trained than the kids parents were. But seriously having to change 8 diapers every 2 hours gets really old, really fast and really stinks....literally PHEW! So that is where I learned about potty training. It is a total trial and error. Every child is completely different. Parents methods are completely different, some parents don't even seem to care that your potty training their child. (Note to self and other parents: If you have a child at a day care center check in with the teachers at the end of the day to see how things are going, feel free to ask what works for them, share what works for you, let them know how you do it so they can do it the same way.)

(okay, so hes not ready yet (only 19 months old) but what does it hurt to get him introduced to the idea? )

Anyways, it was getting close to the time of me wanting to start potty training my E-man. How did I know/why did I think he was ready? Here are some signs I went by:
-curiosity: He was interested in the bathroom. Checking out the potty, watching Mommy and Daddy, looking and seeing how things work.
-"Mommy, I'm pooping": Okay, Yes my 2 year old said this to me as he sat crouched down in his special corner doing his job. Enough said.
-Practice: I happened to go to Ikea when E was about a year and a half old. They had cute little potty's for only $5.00. I couldn't pass that up, so into my cart went a cute little green potty. I knew my sweet little son wouldn't be potty training anytime to soon but what would it hurt to have a little potty around? (see above picture of the potty)
-Grabbing: I started to notice my son grabbing himself when ever he peed. He would also tell me when he had gone potty in his diaper and I knew he wanted to be changed.
-Fighting: Remember the beginning of this post when I said my son screamed and kicked like a hyena? He HATED his diaper being changed and it was bad. I was tired of dealing with it.

We let our son sit on the little potty before taking baths and he liked to. If he said no we didn't force it. He was still pretty young so I wasn't to worried at that point. After he turned to I started taking in signs and cues that he was getting ready. I finally said at two and a half I was going to try potty training. We would see how it went and go from there. The day finally came when my little E-man turned 2 1/2 years old. Welcome to the world of potty training!

What we had on hand:
-1 pack of pull ups ( I got these free and had no intention of using them).
-15-20 pairs of underwear
-6 pairs of plastic pants (most lined with a cotton)
-1 little green potty
-Gummi Worms
-Gummi Bears
-Thomas the Tank Engine Wagons

Seems like a funny list right? Its what I had and what we found to be successful. ( My experiences will, I guarantee, be different from yours). The undies and plastic pants are pretty self explanatory along with the little green potty. The Gummi Worms are for when E actually GOES pee in the potty, even a little dribble (only 1 worn). Gummi Bears are for when he tried to go pee but had no success (he only got 1). Last the Thomas the Tank Engine Wagons, those are for the big kahuna, that's right little E-man you go POOP on that potty and you can have a brand new wagon for your train! Bribery? Sure some people would call it that, I considered it more of a reward for doing good.
