Cheekys Cover

During our first week of Under Cover I wrote about Cheeky Diapers, but it was their fantastic fitted that I reviewed. You can find my review here. This week, in honor of covers, I get to share with you all about this OS Cheeky Diaper Cover. Unique in is own special way. I bet you will have a hard time finding any other cover like this one. I again got to choose what fabric I wanted my cover to be made with. I got the same cute wooded creature print and then white trim and gray back ground. Turned out awesome. Make sure you check out Cheeky Diapers cover designer. You can pick your fabrics and click the ones you like to see what they look like together. Its so fun just to play around with! Go here and scroll down and you will see all the options!
Okay on to the cover... As you can see in the picture above this is a nice size cover. It also has cross over tabs. What you don't realize though is that the Cheeky Cover has an awesome feature hidden within...

Cheeky Cover's have a special set up on the waist and tabs. Not only is this a VELCRO diaper but it also had SNAPS! Do you prefer snaps because LO likes to rip off his diaper but hubby likes velcro because its 'easier'? This is the cover for you then. The snaps don't have to be used but they are great for the little kiddo that likes to try and remove their diapers. Imagine them trying to pull off snaps AND velcro! HAHA Anyways, there is velcro all across the front waist of this diaper and there is a snap on the wings. The wings allow crossing over.

The front of this diaper has a row of snaps across the front of it. To make this a OS cover and make it smaller you fold the front of it down towards the out side. This will reveal a second row of snaps, as shown in the picture below. You can then snap the tabs on here.
Here is the cover on my son over top of the Cheeky Fitted. It has a great fit on him.
I can't get over how cute this fabric is! I love to use this just because its so cute! (and it works great). Here is a side view of the cover.
I use the second to last snap on the cross over for my 10 month old. I also use the velco.
What do I think? Once I get over the cuteness factor of this cover I still really enjoy using it. Having the option of snaps and velcro is brilliant for sure. My husband HATES snaps and will dig through and dump out every diaper basket until he finds a diaper with velcro. So having this cover with both options is nice. I like having snaps because they hold better than velco so its a win win with this cover. Because of the size of my son we didn't get to use the fold down sizing on the cover but I did play around with it a little bit. It was a little tricky to figure out where exactly to fold down at to get the snaps lined up right were the cover wouldn't pull down and expose the tummy to velcro on the tabs. The sewing job on this cover is great and I have no doubt that it will hold up very well. I didn't have any leak issues with it either. I did try to use a different fitted diaper under this cover and have found that I had to tuck the fitted up into the cover because it almost seems to have a higher cut on it. Other than that this is a great cover to have around.

Zookies Cover

Did you participate in our 12 Days of Clothmas event? If you did then you might remember this review. Zookies contacted me and wanted to sponsor our Under Cover Event as well! Here is the review from our 12 Days of Clothmas event on the Zookies Cover:

Zookies gave the the opportunity to review their diaper cover for the 12 Days of Clothmas event! They sent me a super cute Shark print cover to use on my boys. You can visit her new site here or her etsy site.

(sorry for the crazy sideways pictures...computer is being silly!)

This is a great boy print. I loved it right away.Attached to the diaper was a very handy sizing chart tag. That also includes how to measure for a cover and how to wash.
Here is the diaper opened up a little bit. You can see it has laundry tabs included and they usually stay attached when washing. I was a little worried about the size of the velco tabs you use to secure the diaper on because they are smaller than all my other velcro diaper tabs but after using this cover multiple times I found that those are some strong, sturdy little tabs!
Here is the back with the cute little name logo on the back.

The inside is nice and soft. She makes her covers so that the plastic-y part of the PUL does not touch your baby's skin, like the PUL material is backwards. Here is the cover on my little guy. I used this over prefolds and fitteds. I also put it on my toddler but he could have used a bigger size because of a higher rise being needed.

(sorry, another crazy sideways picture.) Here is the diaper from the front. What I thought:
-Overall I liked this cover. I had very minimal leaks with this and if there was a leak it was probably my fault of not changing him soon enough. One thing I did notice with this cover was that if I had the leg holes just at the right tightness then the back was a little more loose than I like. This didn't cause any problems though. And this could be because of the build of my little guys chubby thighs.
-I love all the insanely adorable prints that Zookies offers for both boy and girl.

Zookies covers now come in snaps or velco!

Covers Week

Now that you know all about fitted diapers and prefolds you will need to figure out what kind of cover is best for you. There are a few different options as far as materials go:
-PUL
-Fleece
-Wool

What is the difference between the three?
PUL-(Polyurethane Laminate) - This material is made with either a polyester knit fabric, cotton/poly blend, or cotton woven fabric. You can find it laminated with either a 1 mil or 2 mil layer of polyurethane which is a durable water resistant coating. The thiner laminate will keep the material stretchy and soft. The thicker laminate will make the material a little stiffer but seem more durable. With PUL you will find that it is not breathable. No water can get out but no air can get it.

Fleece- This material is used by a lot of moms who want their child's bottom to be able to 'breath' so to speak. Fleece is a breathable material which allows air to flow through to the baby's skin helping to keep rashes away and to help clear them up if they do get one. Fleece is also great for wicking away moisture and not absorbing or repelling.

Wool- This is also a favorite by many moms. Wool, like fleece is breathable and allows air to flow freely through it. Wool does require a few extra steps for caring for it which will keep some moms from using it. It needs to be lanolized and requires a long period to dry. Wool helps regulate body temperature, keeping the baby warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Covers some in different styles as well. You can get a cover that opens and closes with either velcro or snap or you can get a 'soaker' cover that pulls on like undies. Finding a diaper cover that comes in velcro that holds well is kind of tricky. We all HATE to end up with lint filled velcro tabs or chains of diapers in our washing machine. I have found a few different brands that work well with the velcro actually sticking one being the Bummis Cover.

Embellished Prefold from The Natural Mama (Review)

Are you ready for some cuteness?
I had never seen an embellished prefold until I was searching on etsy one day. This is seriously adorable!
(Apologies for the pee - apparently my little model really liked the diaper, as he wasn't in it two minutes before christening it, hehe. I was 'borrowing' a friends' baby, as my little guy was too big for this prefold once it arrived. I went to re-do the shots, and her guy was then too big. So, apologies to our readers AND to The Natural Mama!)

What makes this particular prefold unique is, not only the dyed material, but the cotton center panel down the middle of the prefold (on the super-absorbent portion of the prefold). The rectangular portion left uncovered is intentional as a snappi would pull on the printed cotton material, picking and tearing it (the snappi needs something stronger to grip to).
Diapers like this make great photography session shots too (did I mention that I'm not the world's best prefolder? hehe).
You can see all the embellished prefolds The Natural Mama has to offer in her Etsy shop. Each one is made using a Diaper Service Quality Infant Sized Indian Prefold that is dyed and match with coordinating cotton fabric.

Also, if you prefer the rectangular cut out, NOT be cut out, she can do that too, or even make a matching t-shirt!

Thirsties Duo Hemp Prefold Review

You can imagine my surprise when I received this in the mail from Wee Little Changes:
Yes, my arm is THROUGH this prefold. But this isn't just any prefold, this is the Thirsties Duo Hemp Prefold.

(And before I go any further, I must apologize. My youngest is trying ever so hard to get on the move. Diaper changes are neigh impossible! While I love picking out his diapers, if hubby is home, I've regulated him to diaper duty - this "I'm doing everything in my willpower to crawl, squirm and get moving" business is for the birds! So, all that to say, pictures are getting harder to take, hehe!)

Back to the prefold! The Thirsties Duo Hemp Prefold is soft. SO soft. Think "my favorite old t-shirt" soft. And instead of your typical "extra absorbency in the middle" prefold, this one is quilted-like (hard to get a good, close-up shot of this. Apologies again!) Think "quilted pillows".
Laid out - it's a huge size, about the size of a couch cushion!
Here is where the once-you-get-it-it's-so-easy world of prefolds gets even easier...

Fold the Thristies Duo Hemp Prefold into thirds...
(side note: there is about an inch wide "top flap" at one end of the prefold that you can fold down if the prefold is too long for your baby)
Lay it inside your Thirsties Duo Cover (this is a Size 2 Prefold inside a Size 2 Cover)
(Squirmy baby alert: Tried to show how it would cover him...it covers even better when you don't stop to snap a picture, hehe)
Snap (or velcro!) on the cover and viola!
Nice and trim!
And apparently comfy too!
And we're off to explore some more!
The Thristies Duo Hemp Prefold is amazing. Not only does it make prefolds super easy, there are a couple other reasons this particular prefold rocks:
  • Being as thin as it is, it does not take long to dry (even air drying, it's fast)
  • Thorough cleaning is achieved as there is not as much fabric to clean
  • Hemp has antimicrobial properties, is more absorbent and more durable than cotton
The Thristies Duo Hemp Prefold comes in two sizes: Size 1 (6-18lbs) and Size 2 (18-40lbs).

We have absolutely loved this prefold! We've recently started our youngest on solids and this diaper has been great for exclusively breastfed poo, as well as solids poo :) I've also paired this prefold with a doubler inserted in the middle, then trifolded for night time, with a cover - perfection. If you are worried about getting the hang of prefolds, all the folding and snappi-ing or pinning, this is a great alternative to the traditional! (And did I mention how incredibly soft it is??) :)

Disclaimer: I received a Size 2 Thristies Duo Hemp Prefold from Wee Little Changes for review as part of the Under Cover Month event. All opinions are my own and you may have a different experience.
