Wee Pea Originals

I love to try out different mama made diapers because you know that there is the care and quality put into them because they genuinely love what they are doing. Awhile back, I was sent a beautiful Wee Pea Original diaper in cheetah print. My daughter took it out the package and immediately fell in love with it. She loved how soft it was a rubbed the inside to her face!

Here it is! This is a OS AI2. My oldest daughter loves all things animal prints so she adored it as well. I love the snap combo-a full double row across the waist with a single snap for the top and two for the bottom. This has worked great to prevent any droopy of the wings. There is also four rise adjustments with three snap settings and completely open. There are two columns of snaps which I generally don't thing is enough(think Easy Fits) but  we did not have any issues at all with it!

Karen, the owner and creator of Wee Pea Originals, sent me a detailed instruction sheet on how to wash and care for the diaper. I think this goes to show that WAHMs really do care about the products that they create and want to help you maintain the quality of their work.

Here is a picture of the back. I can't help but love the print too.

This is the inside of the AI2 all together. Sometimes AI2 are called hybrids as well. The inner of this diaper is so soft and velvety. Even after several washes, it is still super soft.

This is the insert removed. It has a unique shape, which I loved for when I was doing diaper laundry and had to match up inserts! It fits perfectly into the shell.

The insert easily snaps into the shell and stayed in place great for us!

Kynlie still loves this diaper.

Hey! What is inside?

Super soft organic bamboo velour! LOVE!

We got a good fit on the rise and waist. We also never had any leaks with this diaper at all. It was one that we also used quite frequently with overnights.

We were able to get a good fit around the legs and had no drooping of the wings because of the double layer of waist snaps.

Booty!

You can see how incredibly trim this diaper is on the bum as well.

Overall we love this diaper from top to bottom. The super softness of the bamboo, the trimness, the cute print! This Wee Pea Original worked great for us.

You can find your own Wee Pea Original diaper on Esty as well as a few other items.

Kung Poo Diapers

Kicking the poo out of diapers. MADE & TRAINED EXCLUSIVELY IN THE USA!

If I was just starting out on the long road to cloth diaper bliss, I think that ordering a dozen black belt diapers from Kung Poo Diapers may have been my best move. These one size pocket diapers are truly economical at $9.95 a piece and $1.95 for extra inserts.

Here is Coral in her new Kung Poo Black Belt

The soft microfiber inside is fully lined and has a sleeve for the insert. This is wonderful for those of us who like to take the diaper off and throw it in to the pail straight away.
It has a single row of snaps with a crossover flap and rise snaps. The snaps are easy to close and good quality.
There is something that I find very refreshing in the simplicity of this diaper. It's one of my favorites to send with Coral to the sitter because it's so user friendly and cute.

Here is the diaper in it's smallest set up. The insert still somehow fits in here with the rise at it's lowest.

A nice detail is the black lining on the insert. It's clear which diaper it goes with and is a unique touch.
You can buy additional inserts for just $1.95 but I haven't seemed to need one yet for Coral. Click on this photo to go to site.

Here's my little ninja dancing around in her Blackbelt

This side view shows that there's not much bulk in the back with just one insert.
It is a little bulky in the front after she starts moving around. I usually don't prefer one row of snaps but this still seems to keep my wiggle worm covered well.
There are no gaps under the legs, even while doing baby-yoga ;). I haven't had any leaks with this diaper either!
In conclusion, I think that Kung Poo Diapers is a great, affordable option and very user friendly for dads, and other caretakers. Head over to Kung Poo's website and check out their other color options!

O-Dee-O Designs

Next up today is O-Dee-O Designs. Katie is a mama of three boys, and is the mama behind O-Dee-O Designs. I found O-Dee-O Designs through Facebook and just loved the cute fleece covers she makes, and I was excited to have the chance to review one of them for Cloth Diaper Addiction. I asked Katie to share a little about herself, how she got started making diapers, and what products she offers.

With the birth of my youngest son, I entered the world of cloth diapering. I have fallen in love with using cloth and have been finding ways to be "greener" and more earth friendly. I want to spread this love with other moms and dads and so I began sewing in May 2012 and decided to open O-Dee-O Designs in June. I make PUL pockets and covers, woven outer pockets and covers, upcycled T-shirt diapers, and of course the fleece covers and pockets. I also make accessories like wipes, wet bags, and taggie blankets. My favorite item to make is the upcycled T-Shirt diapers. They allow me to be very creative! But a close second is anything to do with fleece!

Katie let me choose the fleece print for the cover that she made me, and I picked out this cute hedgehog print. Her fleece covers have two layers of fleece, with an extra soaker layer sewn down the middle. The cover that I received is a one size cover and has cross over snaps on both flaps. I really like when one size diapers have the cross over snaps on both sides because then I don't have to remember to start with one side every time!

The cover has nice wide leg elastic and back elastic that are completely encased in the fleece. We have not had any red marks with this diaper at all! This picture above shows the diaper on the smallest rise settings.

A close up of the cute hedgehog print! Katie has really great prints to choose from on her Facebook page. It was a hard decision to narrow it down to one print!

A close up of Katie's adorable labels! The label has held up great through a bunch of washings too.

This picture shows the diaper all the way open with the largest rise. It is a great, roomy cover and will definitely fit Ava for a long time.

Here is the inside, where you can see that there is a third soaker layer in the wet zone. This has been so great for us to have in a cover. We have had zero leaks while using this cover!

Here is the diaper opened up. You can see that there are two sets of rise snaps, giving three rise size options. For Ava (24 lbs and 30 inches) we have been using this all the way opened up because we use bulky fitteds for night time.

Here is a rear view on the bum. This cover has given us a great trim fit and I love how Katie took the time to center one of the hedgehogs on the back. It's just so cute!

Ava was a little too busy with her toys to let me get much of a side shot, but you can see that with an average sized fitted underneath this cover has a nice trim fit!

This front view of the cover was about as good as I could get with a wiggly toddler! Ava has a very skinny waist so we have the flaps of the cover meeting in the middle and we get a great fit that way.

Overall, this has been a great addition to our cover stash, and I have really liked using it for night time and nap times. We haven't had any leaks and the breathable aspect of the fleece has really helped with Ava's occasional teething related diaper rash. Katie was so great to work with and I highly recommend her covers!

Katie has offered to give away a custom fleece cover to one of our readers! She has a fantastic selection of fleece and our winner will have a great time choosing a print for their baby.

Breaking Down Cloth Diapers {All In Ones}

All In One

One of my favorite things is helping new mamas learn about cloth. Because there are so many options (sized/OS, styles, brands etc) it is nice to be able to get some real feedback from people who use them. You can find a lot of information online about the different types of diapers but not all of them include specifics. This week we are helping to break cloth down in a way that you can understand it and see the different styles and types of diapers. And as always, feel free to ask a question!

With an All in One (AIO) the name basically says it all. Everything is in one piece, connected in some way or another. The All In One (AIO) diaper is the diaper that most resembles a disposable diaper and has the same ease of use as one. They are very easy to use and probably most preferred by Dads because of the simplicity of them. There are also several different types of AIOs and I put together a small group of them to show you.

Generally AIO diapers have a waterproof outer with an absorbent inner that is all sewn together. Unlike pocket diapers, the absorbent layer cannot be taken out/off and therefore they have a slightly longer dry time.

Some AIO diapers have the inner sewn completely around the edges and you have no access to the underside of the absorbent layer.

Here is an example of a Koala Huggerz diaper that has the absorbent layer completely sewn in. The particular brand comes with a booster that is safe against baby's skin and helps with additional absorbency.

Others have the absorbent layer sewn just on the front end and the back end with the middle edges open and everything lays flat.

This is a BumGenius Elemental diaper. It has the absorbent layers sewn at the back and front ends. This helps with dry time significantly. If you needed some additional absorbency, you could tuck a hemp insert underneath the two layers. This style can be tricky with small babies as you have to figure out how to fold the access without creating a bulk.

There are also some that have a pocket style opening to add extra absorbency if needed.

This is a Thirsties duo AIO. It has the absorbent layer sewn on the sides at the leg area and the back and front are left open. You can add in extra absorbency at the back/front if needed. (Although this particular diaper can hold a lot!)

BumGenius also recently released this AIO which is different as well. This is the FreeTime. It has one end sewn but not the other on two different absorbent layers. This makes dry time on this a lot faster as well.

All In One diapers come in both Hoop/Loop (velcro) and snaps depending on the brand. They also come in either sized (NB, S, M, L) or OS (one size) again depending on the brand.

Pros of AIOs:
*Easiest to use
*Most similar to a disposable (helpful for Dad or Grandma)
*Typically have a trimmer fit on baby's bum
*Most convenient
*Great for nighttime

Cons of AIO:

*One of the most expensive options
*Longer drying time since everything is connected
*Tend to need to be stripped most frequently than other styles

Here is a list of the AIO diaper reviews that we have posted on the blog.

What I love - Brielle

I'm enjoying this week; reading all of the highlights in cloth diapering of my fellow writers. Please forgive the occasional repeat in today's post. Some of these are just too dang good to not mention again.

AIO: I only have a few of these but I love the fit of the Grovia on my long and lean girl. I don't think they'd be as near to my heart if I had a chunky child but for us we really enjoy the Grovia AIO with an extra snap in hemp liner.

Pocket: This is a real toss up between the ever-faithful BumGenius 4.0 with snaps and the Thirsties pocket diapers. Once again, the Thirsties have that nice trim fit but the BumGenius even with it's wide frame is one size and will be on her from around 12lbs to middle school? Gosh I hope she won't need them that long but they would probably fit her.

Cover:
BumGenius' Flip cover is great. I use it in a few different ways and it always performs well. First with a prefold just folded lengthwise, then wrapped with snappies, then "flushable" inserts.

Prefold:
KnickerNappies makes a mean prefold. I have three different sizes acquired from here. They are soft, flexible, and absorbent. I went for the unbleached variety which is a healthy and easy choice. Some of that natural shadowing just blends in and fades once you get a chance to sun them. I don't have many sunny days here in the Northwest so it's good to have options.

Detergent:
I use Biokleen laundry powder. I use it for all of our clothes/diapers and it seems to do a great job. We all have sensitive skin so we use the scent free variety and only occasionally have to use Biokleen's Bac Out to deodorize the microfiber inserts.

Wetbag/Pail Liner:
I'm going to have to echo the PlanetWise cry here. They are stretchy, durable, and plenty big enough to line a kitchen size trashcan. I am exploring some WAHM wetbags for travel but right now I just use a smaller PlanetWise bag with a zipper.

Wipes:
I made some double sided flannel squares about 6"x6" and they seem to work great. I also have a few old t-shirt squares that I sewed into similar squares and they are nice for a large mess.

Wipe Solution: Not everything has to be complicated and I think this is one. I use witch hazel, water, lavender oil, and a little rosewater if I'm feeling fancy. In a spray bottle this rough mixture works well. I am very excited to do a review next month on a spray that has a similar mixture but can be used for multiple purposes.

Butt Cream:
Organic coconut oil has worked wonders for us. It hasn't had any ill effect on my diapers and it's been good for diaper rash prevention and treatment. It's also great to spread the remainder of what is in your hands on your baby's legs and arms.

Baby Babu Pocket Diaper Review

Baby Babu Pocket Diapers may look like your typical one-size pocket diaper at first glance, but there are a couple of neat features that make it stand out from others.

The 3 snaps on the wings allows for a great fit fit on your little one!
Probably my favorite feature - an extra gusset! Whenever I find a diaper with an extra gusset, I want to shout THANK YOU from the mountaintops! We put the extra gusset to good use with 2 year molars coming in. Let's just say, it worked, very well! ;)
Inside the pocket, there is a snap to hold the insert in place. At first, I didn't think I'd make much use of this feature. And then I realized how inserts in my other pocket diapers without this inner snap shift around - not a ton of shifting, but having that snap definitely makes me reach for this diaper before others (especially at a diaper change before a high-activity activity)
The Baby Babu has two openings - at the front, and the back - of the diaper, allowing the insert to agitate out in the wash. I've even left the insert snapped in and it still agitates out - and unsnaps itself. What does this mean for you? No touching a gross insert (if that is something that grosses you out!)
And can I just say, look at that snuggy elastic?! I was so worried about red marks on Caedmon's legs, but not once have we seen any. Just good solid elastic that holds in the most serious of messes!
My kiddo absolutely refused to stand up and allow me to take his picture. Did I mention that he's 2 now? And that he has my stubborn personality? ;) The fit looks funny here, but it's actually an amazing fit....
Nice and trim. No gaps. No front pooching.
 Snug in the rear too.
I really, really loved the way this diaper performed. We have not experienced any leaks, #1 or #2, with the Baby Babu. The PUL is very thick (not cheap and flimsy feeling) - and a very fun, bright color!

At $11.99 per diaper, the price is great too!

The only thing that I wasn't a huge fan of regarding this diaper was the microfiber insert, as I prefer to use natural inserts. However, Baby Babu does offer the option to purchase a 4 Layer Bamboo Insert

Baby Babu also has other styles of diapers to choose from including Covers, AIOs, Flats, and Prefolds.

Bunzuke Cloth Convertabunz - Review

Trying out the Bunzuke Convertabunz 2.0 was too much fun! I first discovered WAHM Sara of Bunzuke Cloth via Facebook when a friend liked a picture of a custom Yoda diaper she made.
Living in a house with 4 Star Wars fans, I had to check out more. She is amazingly talented and creative!

One of her creations is an incredible little diaper called the Convertabunz. The Convertabunz is made up of Bamboo and Organic Cotton Bamboo. In the wetzone, there is a layer of ZORB for extra absorbency. Simply put, it looks like this:
It's nice and long when unfolded, and harbors lots of snaps!
It can seem a bit intimidating at first...But once you get the hang of it, a world of possibilities is available in this one diaper!
The inside has a stay dry strip -
that is actually a pocket!

Turn it inside out, and you have a trifolded prefold to lay inside a cover, or a super absorbent insert for your favorite pocket diaper!
Inside out also reveals adjustable snaps to create a fitted diaper!
Showing the "Normal" setting on the left side, and preparing for a "Fitted" setting on the right
Squirmy baby alert: my guy will not lay still for diaper changes. Getting the Convertabunz on him 'prefold style' took forever, and this was unfortunately the best shot.
But, as you can see it is incredibly trim!
Here is the Convertabunz in a "fitted" style (created using the inner adjustable snaps)
Paired with a favorite cover
So trim! And offering so much protection!
We paired the Convertabunz {as a fitted} with a bamboo doubler and a fleece cover for nighttime and were so pleased with the results on our heavy wetter {no leaks}!

My pictures only touched the surface of the Convertabunz!
This picture is straight from the Bunzuke Cloth Hyena Cart, and shows how the Convertabunz can transform to perfectly fit your needs!
The Convertabunz can convert into the following styles of diapers:
  1. Snapping Newborn/Infant Prefold
  2. Snapping Infant/Toddler Prefold
  3. Fitted Newborn/Infant Diaper
  4. Fitted Infant/Toddler Diaper
  5. "Stay Dry" Snap-In Soaker {to almost any AI2 you may have in your stash}
  6. Pocket Diaper Insert
  7. Elasticized Insert
  8. Pocket to add Extra Absorbency
Please take a minute to watch this awesome video on the Convertabunz and see what all you can do with this one diaper!

Incredible, right?!
Keep up with Bunzuke Cloth via Facebook and Twitter to find out the latest on stockings in the Bunzuke Cloth Hyena Cart.

Is this a diaper you would be interested in trying out? What 'fit' do you think you'd like best?

*Please Note: Sara will be adjusting the sizing of the Convertabunz soon, to include a Medium size. She will continue to be making Smalls and Larges, but just stretching the size a bit on the Large!*

Disclaimer: I received one Kelly Green Convertabunz from Bunzuke Cloth for review. All opinions are my own and you may have a different experience.
