RubyRumps Fitted Diaper

For the past month or so, I've had the chance to try out a great fitted diaper--RubyRump's hemp fitted diaper.  RubyRump's is a business owned by a WAHM, Marion.  Marion lives in Washington, and has 5 children.  Her last three kids were cloth diapered, and after learning to make cloth diapers, decided to start her own business-RubyRumps.  She makes fitted diapers, covers, and also AIO diapers.  Marion sent me one of her organic hemp fitted diapers to try.
The etsy shop describes the make-up of the diaper well: "The outside layers are organic hemp fleece and the inside layers are a combination of organic hemp/cotton jersey and organic hemp/cotton fleece."
And let me tell you, with all the hemp in there, this diaper is absorbent!  But before I get ahead of myself, here's what the diaper looks like:
It's pretty simple in design, but does the job well.  The diapers only come in velcro/hook and loop, and I found it to be really strong.  We've had no issues with it rolling up or anything yet, and they stayed stuck down in the washing machine (so NO diaper chains, which is one of my diapering pet peeves!).
The absorbency of the diaper is completely sewn in, so no snapping or adding layers, which is nice--no searching for the insert to snap in while folding the laundry!

The only problem with the absorbency being completely sewn in is that it takes longer to dry.  Now that it's pretty much summertime here in Virginia, I've been line-drying my diapers and haven't noticed that this diaper takes excessively longer than the others out on the line.  But I did notice, on rainy days when I dried everything in the dryer, that the diaper wasn't completely dry after one cycle.  Because I'm lazy, most nights I just take the diapers out of the diaper and leave them in the basket to fold in the morning anyway, so I usually just laid this one out over the edge of the basket and it was dry by morning.  Depending on what other nighttime diapers I used, this isn't the only diaper that needs a little extra dry-time, so sometimes I just added an extra 20 minutes to the cycle and it was dry.  Overall, not a big deal, but just something to be aware of!
And in case you noticed above, I did say "other nighttime diapers," meaning, this diaper is one of our nighttime diapers!!  If you've read any of my other posts, you'll know that my son is a super-soaker.  We have very limited options for nighttime, and this one passed the test!!  Because these diapers are made with so much hemp, I had high hopes for nighttime.  And after washing it and having it take so long to dry (yes, it takes longer to dry, but that also means extra absorbent!), I knew I had to give it a shot overnight.  And it worked.  Like a charm.  I paired it with a wool cover and had complete success!  Hooray!!  This diaper wasn't even completely soaked through by morning.  So as far as absorbency goes, this diaper is fantastic!
Another reason I love hemp is because it's so trim!  Major absorbency without the bulk.  This diaper is really quite trim for such an absorbent fitted diaper.

I used it only at naptime and nighttime (really the only times we use fitteds), so I can't say how it fits under clothing, but looking at this thing, it is super duper trim.  I actually had to pick out specific wool covers that fit more tightly during naps/nightime so they wouldn't fall down!  So I'd say this diaper would work great as a daytime diaper.
again....so trim.
The only issue we really had with this diaper was the fit.  And actually, we only had trouble in the legs; the waist was great!  I asked for a large, but I'm thinking we could have gotten by with a medium.  The weight ranges said a large would fit 16+ pounds, but I'm thinking that they run pretty large and it depends on the shape of the baby.  Myles has tiny little legs, so we got some gaping around them.  It was never an issue, as far as poop goes (I think it helps with fitteds that you have a cover to hold everything in), but just something to be aware of.  I have some friends with kids who weigh the same as Myles but have a completely different build, and I'm pretty sure this diaper would fit just fine on them.
You can see how it gapes on his right leg.  But when I made sure to pull the diaper up as high as I could before fastening it, it helped a lot.  And because we always wear a cover, we never had any problem with the gap causing a leak.

Overall, we love this diaper!  It is SO absorbent, and its really great to have another option for nighttime!  I love that its made with organic materials, so I feel really good with it against Myles' skin.  In my experience, the sizing runs large, but I think it depends on the build of the baby.  And, it just looks cute--who doesn't love a cute, fitted bum.....

*on a side note, Myles is starting potty training and we're having a really hard time keeping diapers on him!  Can you tell what he's trying to do in the picture on the right??  I have to keep telling him "hands off!!"

Anyway.... we really like this diaper!  If you're looking for a super absorbent fitted to add to your stash, this is it!  And they're also really affordable, at only $18.  Be sure to check out RubyRump's on facebook and on etsy.
Marion is also offering a great discount on her store for our readers--30% off, using the code RR30!  To order, check out what's available in her etsy shop, or if you don't see what you want, she can always do custom orders; just send her a message through etsy or facebook.
Also, if you live in or are visiting Port Townsend, WA, her diapers are for sale in a shop on Water St, downtown, called "Seams to Last."  Be sure to check them out!

GreenChild Creations

I'd like to introduce you to GreenChild Creations. I actually found them on Etsy at first and loved the uniqueness of them. I was sent a OS Flannel Fitted Pocket. If you have no idea what that is...that is ok! I will fill you in and probably get you hooked on them.

Here is the diaper that I was sent. It is a one size which means it can fit from birth to potty training. It is made out of flannel and has a pocket opening to fit an insert into. A fitted is a diaper that does not have any waterproofing built into it and you'll need a cover of some sort to keep everything dry.

I love this print. My husband is a firefighter so it quickly became one that we used often because of the print.

Here is the inside and part of what makes this diaper so unique. She makes them without snaps so that you can get the custom fit for your baby. The long part on the bottom of the picture folds up to the rise that you need as well and will sit at the belly.

This is the pocket opening to fit in any type of insert that you like. It is big enough to fit a microfiber insert, a smaller prefold or two hemp. These are what we tried. I am sure you could get more in to meet the needs of your little one for wetness. If you have a newborn or a smaller baby, you may not need to even add an insert because the diaper itself will absorb some as well.

Here is how I folded the rise. I started with a small part...(about 3 inches)

And then folded that one more time.

Here is what it looked liked once it was all folded up. I personally am not a huge fan of pins but these worked really well with what we needed for a waist adjustment.

Starting to get it on.

It was a little tricky with a wiggly baby but easy enough to get the fit you need.

We got a good snug fit around the legs and belly.

Because there is elastic around the leg area, you wont have any leakage or explosions!

Overall we really liked this diaper. It had so many options for absorbency and rise/waist adjustments that it truly is a one size diaper. My husband loved the print but hated that it had pins. I didn't mind them but I think you could easily use a Snappi or Boingo on it as well. We used a Bummis cover and that worked well for us for on top. The only bummer was that you couldn't see the cute print! After several washes, the print did fade as it is flannel but it became much softer than when I first got it.

GreenChild Creations also offers homemade soaps, salves and even butt cream! You'll find several different prints on her Etsy page and her Facebook page

GreenChild Creations is also offering THIS OS Flannel Fitted Pocket to one lucky reader!
I love this print too! Just fill out the Rafflecoptor form by midnight June 6th. Entries will be double checked and winner will be announced Monday!

Make sure to read the entries carefully!

Little Comfort Bambee Fitted

Today I want to introduce you to a cloth diaper that claims: "after 300 washes, [it] will remain as soft as the day you got it!" After quite a few washes here at our home, I can tell you that this claim sure sounds accurate. We have really been enjoying the Little Comfort Bambee Fitted around here!

The Little Comfort Bambee is a one size fits most fitted diaper. It is made by Little Comfort, an Irish cloth diaper company, and distributed in the US by Green Team Enterprises Distribution. The Bambee features a bamboo pico fabric which is made of 80% bamboo and 20% polyester. This ratio is what gives the Bambee its lasting softness! The inner layers of the diaper are a 70/30 bamboo/cotton fleece. The polyester component to the fabric also helps the diaper dry faster than your average bamboo fitted.

The Little Comfort Bambee has two rise options. It uses a fold down rise that can actually snap into place on the front. I don't see this feature on many fold over rise diapers, and I really like having it. I find that it helps to maintain the size if the fold is snapped down. This next picture shows the rise folded over and snapped in place.

The fitted comes with two boosters that you can use inside it. Both are topped with fleece to give a stay dry feeling for your baby. This is an awesome feature, especially to use at nighttime!

The two inserts snap together and then snap into the diaper. In the picture above the insert on the far right snaps onto the one in the middle. The snaps on the bottom insert can then snap onto the snaps on the front of the diaper, shown in the picture below.

You can see in this next picture how the inserts stack inside the diaper. They add a ton of absorbency!

When the rise is folded down you can use the smaller of the two inserts by itself, though it is just a lay-in insert when used with the fold down option. The same snaps that hold in the inserts for the large rise become the waist snaps for the folded rise. For really small babies you could even leave both inserts out, since the fitted shell has a built in section of very absorbent bamboo fleece down the middle.

We got a great fit with this fitted. It has nice stretchy tabs which makes it easier to get a good fit around the waist. This diaper is really trim through the crotch despite having both inserts in!

We also got a nice smooth, trim fit across the back of the diaper. I really like trim fitteds because I have a lot more options for what cover to use over them!

Overall, this fitted has been a great diaper for us! It is very absorbent, and with the stay dry fleece it is often my go-to nap diaper. I find that Ava sleeps longer and better with stay dry material during naps, and this works great for that purpose. The fit is great and since it is trim I can even use my cute GroVia covers over it! This is a great fitted option for those who need stay dry feel but want bamboo absorbency!

Made With Love Fitted Diaper

I'm happy to be able to introduce you to another WAHM brand today: Made With Love Diapers. Work at home mama, Kiera, makes gorgeous diapers. Kiera just celebrated her business's sixth anniversary in February, and she is in the process of opening a natural baby boutique, Motherbaby Naturals, in her home town!

Kiera sent me a lovely fitted diaper to review. With its adorable cotton velour rockin' guitars print on the outside and buttery soft inner bamboo and cotton layers, this fitted is squishy bliss!

This is a one size fitted, and has a snap down rise which gives a total of three possible rise heights. The fitted also has cross over snaps so this diaper can accommodate a large range of babies from 10 - 40 lbs. I love the fun snap colors that are on this diaper!

This shows the rise and waist snaps on the smallest setting.
The interior and snap in petal soaker are made of a 70/30 viscose of bamboo and organic cotton. The soaker snaps into the front inside of the diaper, a feature that makes unsnapping to wash a bit easier if there is poop in the diaper.

I get a really awesome fit on Ava with this diaper. Despite how tall she is, we are still on the middle rise setting so this fitted is going to last us a long time. The cross over rise snaps have helped us get a nice snug fit around Ava's skinny waist. The leg elastics are completely covered within the diaper, which is great for kids like Ava, who have sensitive skin and get rashy easily.

This diaper is so nice and trim. It doesn't cause a huge fluffy bum, but it still holds a lot of liquid! I love this diaper for nap time especially.

Overall, this is a fantastic fitted. It is very well made, and I love how soft the fabrics are that Kiera uses! It is really absorbent, and with the fun print and great fit, it is one of my favorite fitteds to use on Ava.

Make sure to check out the Made With Love Facebook page and the Motherbaby Naturals Facebook page to see more of Kiera's lovely products and keep up with her new venture.

Kiera has offered to do a free for shipping giveaway for one of her OS Naked Fitteds! The winner will get to choose the serging thread color or the snap colors if they opt for a turned and topstitched fitted.

GroVia Kiwi Pie Fitted Diaper

I was given the opportunity to review the new GroVia Kiwi Pie Fitted diaper today. These are a new addition to the GroVia line, and are American made! These fitteds have an adorable cotton fabric on the outside and the inside is a blend of micro-modal and pima cotton.

Micro-modal fabric is a great sustainable fabric option which is made from beech trees and is fifty percent more absorbent than cotton! It also stays softer longer due to it's resistance to hard water mineral deposits. We have very hard water at our house and I can already tell that this diaper is staying nice and soft despite that!

Like all fitteds, the GroVia Kiwi Pie does shrink a bit after prepping, but I found that the shrinkage was very minimal compared to other diapers I have prepped.

The GroVia Kiwi Pie is a one size fitted and has one set of rise snaps. These fitteds are sized from 10 - 30 pounds, and I definitely think that this would have fit Ava great when she was a newborn.

The rise snaps are offset slightly from each other, which helps to reduce bulk. I really like this feature as I think it gives a nicer front look when the rise is snapped down.

Each GroVia Kiwi Pie comes with two four-layer inserts that simply lay inside the diaper. Most fitteds I have tried snap into the diaper, so I was surprised that these were lay-in soakers. I think it gives a nice clean look to the outside of the diaper though, with no snaps on the outside.

I really love that the soakers each have the cute print on the back of them! This is a great feature if you have multiple Kiwi Pies and want to ensure that the correct soaker stays with the correct diaper.

The two soakers snap together on one end, which helps keep them from moving around too much. This is where my only complaint with the diaper came in. I found the snaps here to be very "soft," meaning that they didn't click together nicely and they didn't hold very strongly. It's not a huge issue with this diaper since it really doesn't affect function, and it could be just this particular diaper too.

I found the fit to be really nice on Ava. You can see that we got a really trim fit between the legs. I love the ruffly look of a serged diaper, and the only bummer is that I have to hide the cute pattern under a cover!

This side view shows how trim this fitted is! This is with both soakers inside; for a smaller baby with the rise snapped down you could easily just use one soaker to get a nice trim fit.

The snap layout is just like my GroVia shells and we got a really similar fit to what we get with those. I love when diapers fit nice and smooth in the front like this.

Here is the fitted with my GroVia owls snap shell over it. Typically when I use the GroVia soakers I have the shell on the middle rise setting, but the fitted is a little bulkier so I opened the rise all the way up to fit over it.

I did struggle a little to get the sides of the fitted completely covered by the shell. You can see here the Kiwi Pie peeking out a tiny bit. It seemed to me that the Kiwi Pie was just a touch wider than the shell here so it was a little tricky to get it all to go under the shell. I have not had any wicking though so my cover job holds up!

Overall we have really enjoyed this fitted. Ava is a super wetter at night, and this fitted worked well with just a little extra absorbency added. For a medium to normal wetter at night you probably just need this fitted by itself. (For comparison, we usually use an angel-folded baby sized prefold with an infant sized prefold tri-folded as an insert, and both of those are soaked by morning!) For day time use, I can get a really long time out of this fitted, so it is one that I reach for if I am going out for a while and don't want to worry about leaks!

GroVia Kiwi Pie fitteds retail at $27.00 and come in six adorable prints! Considering the fantastic fabrics, print choices, absorbency, and the fact that these are made in the USA the price is totally worth it to me. I highly recommend these fitteds!
