Calendar Time!

As a former preschool teacher, I try to implement some of the same activities that we did daily with our children there in our home each day. While we do not intend to home school (though, as with cloth diapers, I have learned to refrain from saying that I will "NEVER" do something! Ha!) we still aim to be diligent in being our children's first teachers.

Around Christmas, I purchased this wall calendar off of amazon.com and began the intentional practice of daily reviewing the months of the year, days of the week and counting to figure out the date. While my boys (the older ones, 4 and 2.5) both know their days of the week, months were something yet to be learned.

My big guys look forward to reviewing the days and counting to the date every morning. My oldest is all too proud to remind me that he knows most of the months of the year. (Ok, and mommy is a bit proud of him too) :)
This particular calendar is great, as the months/days/dates come already separated (call me lazy! hehe) and are made of cardboard, so they are super sturdy.

Any days that are date-recurring (Christmas on Dec. 25th, New Years Day on Jan 1st, etc...) come with pre-marked holiday cards.
Also included are celebration cards/holiday cards with a clear middle for holidays that change dates (Thanksgiving, Easter) and for birthdays and other "Celebrations".

The calendar has 3 metal grommets for easy hanging, as well.
Just a little some thing fun to add some learning and routine to our days!

  1. What a fun idea! I used to love counting to the day when I was little too :) The calendar we had in our classroom was a little bigger than yours though because we had weather pictures too.

  2. There was one with weather on it as well, but we have a 'weather bear' that we use already :) My guys are geeky about the weather like their mama, hehe ;-)
